Q. I'm new to massage, is there anything I should know before my session?
A. Massage is a great way to unwind and relax. It can also help the body loosen its tension. We will go over an intake once we are in the room, it will go over your history, any medications you are on, things that the practitioner should be aware of, places to avoid, it will also tell me areas of focus and what kind of pressure you like. Once the practitioner leaves the room, you will undress to your comfort level, we can make it work with any level of undress, it just may not get the exact results you are looking for. Your practitioner will check in with you throughout the massage and make sure that the pressure is where you want it throughout the session, at any point you can change whether you want more or less (it shouldn't hurt- it should be a hurt so good kind of pain). If at any point you feel uncomfortable or need the practitioner to stop, please say so. Your comfort is the first priority. Don't hesitate to ask your practitioner any questions that you have as well. Once the session is over your practitioner will let you know and will step out of the room to wash their hands while you get dressed. Once you are dressed you'll open the door a crack and then practitioner will come back in and will go over the things they found during your session (i.e knots, tension, tightness, limited range of motion) and together you can come up with a game plan if that is something you are interested in (usually stretches to do at home, drinking more water, and rebooking a follow up session).
Q. I'm sick, can I still get a massage?
A. No. If you are sick it is best that you stay home and recover from any sickness that you have, especially if you are contagious. We are very thorough with our sanitization protocols, but to help limit any chance of sicknesses being spread we ask that you wait until you are feeling better before booking a massage.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. We ask that you cancel before 24 hours your scheduled session. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment then you will still be required to pay for the session unless we are able to fill the session with another client.
Q. What do I need to let my practitioner know before the massage?
A. If you have any places that need to be avoided (injuries, recent surgeries, etc.), any surgeries you have had in the past. Whether you are on any medications (there may be special adjustments that need to be made for them). Any health history that is important (heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney issues, etc.). If in doubt just let the practitioner know. Everything you tell your practitioner will be kept private. Please include these on the intake form that will be sent to you prior to your massage.
Q. What should I do after a session?
A. Make sure you drink plenty of water and continue to stretch. Stretching helps keep the muscles loose and extends the longevity of the work you just received. Taking an epsom salt bath is also a great option to help keep the muscles loose and a great way to relax.
Q. How do you do glute massage?
A. There are a couple of ways that the glutes can be massaged. As always we do modest draping (draping is a state law and we follow that to a T). Your comfort level is the biggest priority, so please let your practitioner know. First option: Direct skin to skin contact (no barriers are in the way i.e. underwear) Second option: Glute work is done through the top sheet Third option: No glute work
Normally we always do the second option, as we have noticed that we have a better effect on loosening up the glutes doing it through the sheet vs direct skin to skin contact.
Q. What is the difference between swedish massage and deep tissue massage?
A. Swedish massage is more of a relaxing modality while deep tissue helps your body release the knots and tension that is found in your muscles.
Q. Is it normal to hurt after a massage?
A. Yes, it is normal depending on the type of session. When you get knots and tightness worked out it can cause some pain in the following days especially if they have been there for extended periods of time. Be sure to drink plenty of water and do stretches for the muscles that are sore, as it will help them recover faster.
Q. I have focus areas that I want worked on. How many can you do during a session?
A. The amount of focus areas that can be completed during a session depends on a few factors. The first factor is whether you want just those areas worked on and nothing else. The second factor is the length of the session, the longer the session the more you can get worked out. The final factor is how well you want it worked out, whether you want the majority of the knots/tightness worked out or if you just want some extra time spent there (ex. 5 minutes longer). In general though you can expect the following per session: 50 Minute session: 1 focus area (a few extra minutes spent there unless you want that area focused on and not a full body massage). 80 Minute session: 2 focus areas (could do 3 if you don't want a full body massage) 110 Minute session: 3 focus areas (could do 4-5 if you don't want a full body massage)
Q. What is an S.E.R?
A. SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process that helps the mind and body eliminate the emotional effects of trauma. It is completely natural to have an SER during a massage as well as not have one.
Q. Do you sell gift certificates?
A. Yes we sell gift certificates. They are sold for the modality/session that you would like (as a dollar amount). They are not exchangeable for cash. Gift certificates cannot be copied or duplicated, if this happens the certificate is null & void.
Q. Do you do birthday discounts?
A. We send out birthday discounts codes to our current clients that can be used the month of their birthday.
